19th Century Dutch Wash-Basin

This Dutch marquetry washbasin was built in the 1880’s, and the owner was interested in modifying it to serve as a vanity for their powderroom. This involved cutting down the original drawer boxes, making several repairs to the marquetry, adding concealed reinforcing screws, cutting the necessary holes for the sink basin and faucet, and finally adding a protective coat of pastewax to preserve the original finish. We enjoyed the opportunity to work with such a beautiful piece, and are always impressed by the craftsmanship that came before us.
